East Asian Studies Program

Welcome to the East Asian Studies Program!

The mission of Emory's East Asian Studies Program is to support and advocate for research, teaching, and scholarly activities related to East Asia at Emory and in the Atlanta community.

Emory University has a long tradition of engagement with East Asia, and the East Asian Studies Program continues that tradition. Our faculty combine excellence in research with a commitment to teaching.

Our students have an opportunity to study an East Asian language (Chinese, Korean, or Japanese), and to take courses with experts in many different disciplines, including History, Anthropology, Environmental Sciences, Film and Media Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Literature, Religions, Music, Political Science, and Sociology.

A core component of our mission is to encourage and facilitate direct exchange between East Asia and the United States. We provide a range of options for study abroad and encourage our students to take advantage of these opportunities to deepen their knowledge of the region and create lasting ties to it.

East Asia is one of the most dynamic and fascinating regions on the planet, and East Asian Studies at Emory offers a gateway to better understanding of its past and present.

For Current and Prospective Emory Undergraduate Students

Our faculty come from many departments across the College, and they offer an array of courses in English that varies from semester to semester. Most of these courses have no prerequisites and are open to all. Please consult the Course Atlas for what is available in the current semester.
