About

Miss Lemei Chi earned her B.A. in Chinese Literature with a minor in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language from National Taiwan Normal University in Taiwan. She completed both the Secondary Education and International Baccalaureate Educator programs within this period. Prior to being an FLTA recipient at Emory, Lemei used different styles of teaching methods, such as differentiation through the Multiple Intelligence concept, to teach Mandarin courses to various students from diverse cultural backgrounds, levels, and ages. Her innovative teaching style has resulted in students developing a passion for understanding and mastering one of the languages some deem difficult and even impossible.

In 2017 she discovered her passion for teaching Mandarin while teaching the subject at a local high school in Taiwan. This experience impacted her professional career choices, and she continues to instruct foreign students in Mandarin and local students in Chinese literature throughout Asia. Her experiences also strengthened her determination to teach Mandarin and spread Chinese culture worldwide as a teaching assistant at the NTNU’s Mandarin Training Center. In addition, she worked as an online teaching assistant at The City University of New York and The University of Virginia in 2018 and 2019, where she learned how to incorporate her skills into the higher education sector. She also taught Chinese to students at several after-school programs and classes in local public and private schools.

Furthermore, she has been a passionate and dedicated online Mandarin tutor since 2019, attending and contributing to training sessions. In 2020 she decided to expand the scope of her profession by teaching Mandarin to Taiwanese students ranging from primary to secondary schools at two international schools. Through this experience, she became knowledgeable in implementing assigned curriculums that correspond with student needs, setting up exams to determine students' levels, providing appropriate instruction, and creating lesson plans for classes of different levels. Miss Chi is taking an active approach to personally developing herself by attending various diverse professional development workshops, seminars, and training to maintain being a life-long learner and better educator. As a result, in 2021, she received her Secondary Chinese Teaching License in Taiwan and a Certification for Proficiency in Teaching Chinese as a Second/Foreign Language.

Miss Lemei Chi enjoys outdoor activities and sports in which she has received various awards and leadership roles that have brought championships to her peers. She enjoys classical music and percussion. She is a risk-taker and an open-minded individual who believes in "dare to try, love to learn and be willing to share.” Miss Chi, a Fulbright Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA), will join the Emory Faculty as an instructor in the upcoming fall semester of 2022.
