Ji Hyun HongAdjunct Instructor, Korean

Biography

Ji Hyun Hong recently earned her Ph.D. in Language and Literacy Education from the University of Georgia. Her dissertation centered on Korean American high school students’ perceptions of race and racism, examining their responses through an out-of-school book club focused on Asian American young adult literature and anti-racist texts. She is also interested in the intersection of K-pop and identity, a topic on which she has published the work titled, “Return Migration Experiences Portrayed in K-pop Literature: Somewhere Only We Know and Comeback: A K-pop Novel.” Her contributions have earned her the Carol J. Fisher Award for Excellence in Research, the Hugh Agee Award for Excellence in Research Focused on the Teaching of Literature from the University of Georgia, and the Anti-Racist Session Award from the Assembly on Literature for Adolescents of NCTE (ALAN).

 She has taught Korean language at the University of Georgia for three years and received the 2023 Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award. She is excited to be part of Emory’s Korean language program and hopes to establish a lasting relationship with fellow teachers and students.
